Fujifilm unveils a prototype liquid organic semiconductor transistor

Fujifilm developed an n-type organic semiconductor and showed a transistor made from this material at the Advanced Surface Technology Exhibition & Conference (ASTEC 2021) held from February 21 to 23 in Tokyo.

The semiconductor is based on the material phthalocyanine, which is in a liquid state during use in the production of transistors. Obviously, such a feature makes noticeable changes in the technological process. In simple terms, organic transistors can simply be printed with a device that resembles the principle of operation of the familiar inkjet printer.

Currently, only a few n-type materials are known for printing, as opposed to the more common p-type materials of this kind.

Since the material is relatively stable: it does not oxidize, evaporate or decompose under the influence of light, the developers believe that its use will extend the life of organic transistors. The company is already ready to provide small batches of the new semiconductor to interested manufacturers for review.
