The fastest Sigma telezoom and a suitcase to boot
Most recently, we wrote about the amazing “super televik” Sigma APO 300-800 mm f / 5.6 DG HSM. But the Japanese company Sigma decided to surprise even more and presented a gigantic (you can’t find another word) APO lens 200-500 mm f / 2.8 EX DG with a record aperture for this f / 2.8 range.
Taking into account the crop factor of 1.5x (this factor is also valid for the Sigma SD14 camera, “screwed” to the lens in the picture below), the range of equivalent focal lengths will be 300 – 750 mm. And with the APO Tele Converter 2x EX DG II teleconverter offered for a separate (and, I suppose, not a small one), you can get a fantastic 600 – 1500 mm at f / 5.6.
The lens is designed with neither an ultrasonic focusing motor nor an image stabilization system. After all, given the weight and dimensions of the giant, you still can’t do without a special “lifting” tripod.
But the photographer has an LCD display showing the focusing distance and focal length. And to minimize chromatic aberrations and obtain natural color reproduction, the optical scheme includes four elements made of special low-dispersion glass (SLD, Special Low Dispersion).
The cost of the new item has not yet been reported. But you can be sure that the delivery set will include a special suitcase for carrying this “tool”.
