ASUS and Gigabyte say goodbye to CeBIT?
“If you don’t say goodbye, the song doesn’t say goodbye to you” – a line from a famous song may soon become irrelevant for Taiwanese computer component manufacturers (as well as, more recently, consumer electronics manufacturers) ASUS and Gigabyte.
As the mainstream media continues to comprehend the gigantic amount of information provided by CeBIT 2021, according to a source citing Commercial Times, Taiwanese companies are considering withdrawing from an international exhibition next year. According to the newspaper’s sources, this decision, if it is made, will be due to a decrease in the number of CeBIT participating companies and the growing localization of visitors – in recent years, the exhibition has been mainly attended by residents of cities located not too far from Hanover.
Despite the fact that the cost of organizing a stand and demonstrating equipment samples at an exhibition is very high, Taiwanese firms can already sum up the first result: the profit from CeBIT has not become large. However, this is typical not only for CeBIT, but also for many other international exhibitions – the times when lucrative contracts for the supply of equipment were concluded right at the tables at the stands are over, and the development of information technology has led to a decrease in the number of visitors who had the opportunity to visit the event virtually – reading news and watching videos.
And due to the fact that visitors to the exhibition were mainly residents of Hanover and nearby cities, which led to a decrease in the number of visitors compared to previous years, it became obvious that some prejudice of Europeans towards Taiwanese technology persists to this day, and interest from the image point of view, it turned out to be lower for them than for the stands of other, larger companies. The only exception is Acer (the company, for example, is the leader in notebook sales in Europe). But Acer’s participation in CeBIT 2021 just cannot be called very bright – the company name appeared in an almost imperceptible number of news headlines. So, it is possible that this move by ASUS and Gigabyte will be reasonable enough.
