Kingston Adds Three 8GB Models to SDHC Family

Kingston Technology Expands Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Memory Card Line with Three New 8GB Models and Three New 4GB Models. New items are focused on use in digital cameras and camcorders, PDAs, MP3 players and other devices.

As a reminder, the introduction of the SDHC format allowed us to overcome the 2 GB volume limitation inherent in Secure Digital (SD) cards. SDHC cards are categorized according to their speed characteristics. For convenience, the class number is equal to the steady-state bandwidth, expressed in megabytes per second. For example, a Class 2 SDHC card can communicate with a PC or camera at 2 MB / s, and a Class 6 SDHC card at 6 MB / s. If the class is not indicated in the description of the card, this means that it belongs to Class 2. According to the manufacturer, faster cards are better suited for use as a carrier for video recordings in MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 formats.

The complete list of the presented new products looks like this:

  • SD2 / 8GB – 8GB, Class 2, $ 110 MSRP
  • SD4 / 8GB – 8GB, Class 4, $ 115;
  • SD6 / 8GB – 8GB, Class 6, $ 130;
  • SD2 / 4GB – 4GB, $ 65
  • SD4 / 4GB – 4GB, Class 4, $ 70;
  • SD6 / 4GB – 4GB, Class 6, $ 100;
  • FCR-HS215 / 1 15-in-1 Flash Memory Card Reader / Writer – $ 19.
