Japanese scientists create flexible and transparent organic battery
The photo below is not a piece of transparent plastic, but a polymer rechargeable battery created by Japanese scientists.
Developers from Waseda University managed to create a prototype only 200 nm thick from an organic polymer capable of entering into reversible redox reactions. The charge carrier is NO ions.
The created battery has a high capacity. At the same time, its full charge cycle is only a minute, and the total number of charge-discharge cycles is more than a thousand.
A liquid polymer is applied to the base by centrifugation, after which it is irradiated with ultraviolet light to form intermolecular bonds. This technology makes it possible to impart mechanical strength to the polymer and overcome the previous problem that the polymer dissolves in the electrolyte and the battery self-discharges.
